Strength and conditioning (S&C) is how athletes prepare their bodies to perform. The same principles work for everyday adults who want to be stronger, fitter and more capable. At MEC Fitness in Peyad, S&C is the core of how we train.
The parts of strength and conditioning
| Quality | What it means | How we train it |
|---|---|---|
| Strength | How much force you can produce | Squats, deadlifts, presses, rows |
| Power | Producing force quickly | Kettlebell swings, slam balls, jumps |
| Conditioning | Working hard and recovering | Sleds, ropes, intervals |
| Agility | Changing direction with control | Footwork and movement drills |
| Endurance | Keeping going for longer | Longer intervals, carries |
Is S&C only for athletes?
No. You don’t need to compete in a sport to benefit. Most adults simply want to play with their kids, enjoy a weekend game of football or badminton, or feel fit. S&C training gives you a balanced level of fitness instead of being strong but unfit, or fit but weak.
For recreational and amateur athletes
If you play a sport, an S&C programme can help you move better and build resilience.
